|THIS IS TATOOINE!|
How long have you been on DeviantArt?
11 years now. I joined in May 2004 as an angsty teenager who just wanted to sit at home and draw and watch Dragon Ball Z.. now I'm a melancholic 20-something who just wants to sit at home and draw (but I went to Art School for 4 years, so I'm trying to make it a proper career! I am a responsible adult now.
What does your username mean?
'Vegeta's Eleven'. O_O
My sis Berpi and I used to write stories on a crappy laptop together when we were teenagers. They usually incorporated all our favourite anime/cartoon characters together in some sort of Avengers-esque crime fighting squad (we had no idea the Avengers even existed), except the characters were mostly just from DBZ and they didn't ever do anything apart from fixing their own stupid mistakes. After a race to the top of a mountain, Vegeta won the right to lead them.
And because it was like 2001 and we had just watched the recently rebooted 'Ocean's Eleven' and thought the concept was extremely cool, Vegeta's Eleven was born.
I don't think I've told many people this, because I've only just recently become un-embarrassed about it! Vegeta is awesome. And we've gone back and reread those stories and they're actually hilarious and pretty well-written.
Describe yourself in three words.
loyal.. monochrome ... sympathetic.. ?????
Are you left or right handed?
Right-handed. I am working on being ambidextrous... in my heart!
What is your favourite type of art to create?
Drawing and ink are my methods of choice. I loved being able to make etching prints in Art School, but I haven't been able to access a printing room for years.
If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?
I saw this video yesterday of the youngest Master Penman (www.facebook.com/UPROXX/videos… ) and even though I do already work with ink, it's nothing like this video. I would really love to be able to have absolute control over the ink nib like that.
What was your first favourite?
I can't show it because it doesn't exist on here anymore; apparently it is a 'deviation in storage'. But this is the second favourite: Vegeta's Phobia.
.. I told you I was obsessed with DBZ at the time.
What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?
I love traditional pieces of fanart.. especially for One Piece or other manga / anime/ series I love. But I also try to pay attention to original pieces that are not connected to any fandom in any way, that explore mark-making and art itself rather than a subject or topic necessarily.
Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist?
Far out.. I adored AnnouncerGuy 's work back when she was active.. but at the moment I am just so taken by faQy 's work. She is incredible. Her style is incredible and I just can't help but fave most of her pieces when they pop up in my watch list, whether they be fan pieces or original. She's an amazing artist and I do envy her so.
If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?
Apart from the already-mentioned faQy .. I would actually love to meet e1n for real. He encouraged me with my art journey a little over the years, and is a brilliant example of how something that is classified by so many as a 'hobby' can end up being your life if you work hard enough at it. He started out drawing comics in his room at night, now he's a storyboarder at Dreamworks. Brilliant.
Also, the-math-magician and I have had some laughs over about 8 years. He's brilliantly quirky too. (:
How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?
Other than what I've talked about in the last couple of questions, I guess when eatmoreokra contacted me in a message and let me know he was actually *insert name of famous person here* and he wanted me to draw for him and he had joined dA just to talk to me because he had liked a piece I had put on his fan page on FB... that was the start of my slow climb out of the Ditch. He has continued to be an encouragement to me and I feel blessed to be on friend-terms with him now. (:
What are your preferred tools to create art?
Dark pencil (onwards from 4B), ink nib, ink brush and gouache (up until recently I would've put 'watercolour', but I have discovered that gouache is better suited for my purposes)
What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?
Japan. It is a visual feast.
What is your favourite DeviantArt memory?
Other than above, it would be any time someone faves an original piece of mine, or notices something about my technicality, really. It isn't often (and I've been really inactive on here as of late so I don't blame people for not frequenting my page!) but when it happens, it makes me smile. Big. So thank you!
